That means:

  • Structure — Information organized by domain, not date
  • Persistence — Available in every conversation, not just the one where it was mentioned
  • Retrieval — Accessible when relevant, not when you remember to scroll back
  • Control — You decide what's stored and how it's categorized

Chat history gives you none of this.

Why This Distinction Changes Everything

If you treat chat history as memory, you'll keep doing what doesn't work:
